NYC People’s Climate March – travel days 1 & 2 (9/14/14)

Hi everyone, this is the first of hopefully daily blogs during travel to New York for the People’s Climate March and then backpacking travel in Europe where I plan to connect with climate activists, Unitarian Universalists, and those involved in the Great Turning, Work That Reconnects.

Its hard to believe that I’m actually on my way to NYC for the People’s Climate March. The past two months I’ve been WWOOFing (Willing Workers On Organic Farms), staying at a WOOFER campsite at my dear friends, Don and Elin’s elkdream-farm in Pleasant Hill, Oregon southeast of Eugene. I’m so thankful for their support, my sister, Kathleen’s support, and others of you (friends and family – you know who you are ๐Ÿ™‚ helping me pull together all the loose ends so I could take this trip.

I ran into my fellow 350 Corvallis and Sierra Club EnAct climate activist friend, Aaron Kratz, shortly after boarding the Amtrak Coast Starlight train in Eugene at 5pm yesterday. Aaron boarded in Albany. We arrived here in Emeryville at 8:00 this morning and will be staying overnight along with several fellow travelers including Jean Townes and Tom Smith in preparation for boarding the People’s Climate Train in the morning.

I’ll be in workshops and events starting this Monday, Sept 15, all the way to the Sunday, Sept 21 march, then additional events through the day of the UN Climate Summit on Tuesday, Sept 23rd:
– Sept 15-18: Workshops on the train (see schedule below),
– Sept 19-20: Events sponsored by Global Climate Convergence and others,
– Sept 21: People’s Climate March
– Sept 22: Flood Wall Street event
– Sept 23: Events coordinated with the UN Climate Summit

On about Sept 27, I will be boarding a ship on a 7 day journey from Brooklyn, New York to Southampton, Great Britain. I’m starting out the trip with three bags, but later in the trip, I think I’ll whittle it down to just one. I decided to go ahead and bring my winter clothes and rain gear for travel in northern Europe…

Here’s the ambitious workshop schedule below for the People’s Climate Train that we will be boarding at 9:00am tomorrow, Monday September 15th. Stay tuned for the next blog! ๐Ÿ™‚
